Hi, I’m Kirsty! A passionate nurse, maternity educator & birth doula from Nanton, AB

I love food, coffee, community, my husband, our two wild boys, and all things pregnancy, birth and babies!

With almost a decade of experience as a Maternity RN AND doula, I’ve witnessed first-hand how we have become disconnected from, and fearful of birth. My mission is to bring the intuitive nature back into the birthing process, all while encouraging women to reconnect with their bodies, allowing for fulfilling experiences, and supporting couples to use this intimate time as an opportunity to strengthen their connection as they journey into parenthood.

I’ve taken my experience and lifelong passion, and developed a personalized program for couples looking to optimize their pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience. My unique perspective + approach blends the best of two worlds - the medical experience + natural human wisdom. I provide current, relevant information and personalized, heart-centered support to guide couples through their unique + personal journey, while helping prepare and navigate the unknowns that arise.

Why I Became a Doula

A CHILDHOOD SHAPED BY THE FULL CYCLE OF LIFE

I grew up immersed in the enchanting rhythms of life on a farm, where the marvel of new beginnings unfolded before my eyes—kittens, calves, lambs, and foals entering the world. This early exposure to the cycle of birth and death instilled in me a profound reverence for the natural order of life. My journey into caregiving commenced at a young age, starting with babysitting and later extending to a decade-long commitment to providing live-in care for individuals with diverse physical and mental abilities.

THE BIRTH OF PASSION AND DEEPER CONNECTION

Progressing into nursing felt like a seamless extension of this innate inclination. During my nursing practicum, I vividly recall my initial exposure to labor within a clinical setting characterized by inductions, epidurals, and glaring lights. Despite the clinical environment, an unexplainable connection sparked within me, propelling a deep-seated yearning to support women and their partners through this monumental life transition.

EMPOWERING BIRTH, NURTURING STRENGTH AND SERVING MY COMMUNITY

My path as a doula and birth educator is steered by a deep-rooted conviction in the innate strength of women, the significance of fostering a supportive environment, and the awe-inspiring beauty inherent in embracing the natural birthing process. Additionally, I ardently champion the integration of nature, nourishing food, and community support during pregnancy and the postpartum phase. Recognizing the profound impact of holistic practices encompassing wholesome nutrition and a strong communal network, I emphasize drawing from nature's wisdom to enrich the journey through pregnancy and beyond. This holistic approach not only nurtures physical well-being but also cultivates emotional and mental fortitude during this transformative phase of life.

FROM CITY CHALLENGES TO MY CALLING AS A DOULA

Navigating the challenge of entering the realm of labor and delivery nursing without prior experience, I pursued doula training, delving headfirst into the intricacies of the birthing world. Fatefully, not securing a job in the city led me to a pivotal opportunity at High River Hospital's Maternity Care unit. Here, collaborating closely with seasoned midwives, physicians, OBs, and nurses, I embraced a paradigm where interventions served as tools rather than defaults. Trust in the innate wisdom of the body and the natural birthing process prevailed as foundational principles. My personal experiences giving birth, supported by midwives and doulas, further solidified my belief that thorough preparation and a team grounded in trust and affection empower individuals to confront the challenges of childbirth and emerge resilient.

Hello! I'm Kirsty

A devoted coffee enthusiast, married to a driven farmer, rancher, an entrepreneur, and a proud mom of two wild boys, Tell and Sampson.

Our vibrant farm in Southern Alberta is home filled with joyful chaos thanks to the mix of 4 dogs, 2 cats, chickens, a herd of horses, and plethora of cows. My love for the outdoors drives my passion for exploration, horseback riding, and staying active, although windy days aren't my favorite!

While my fitness routine took a pause during my recent pregnancy and the first year of my youngest son's life, I'm eager to reintegrate riding and workouts back into my routine. My dedication to fitness, nutrition, and the interconnectedness of humans and nature remains strong.

The birth experiences of Tell and Sampson deeply influenced me, igniting a passion for advocating holistic approaches to childbirth and parenting. The support from my Midwife, Doula, Husband, and our close-knit community highlighted the importance of a strong support system through the challenges of pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Witnessing the incredible strength of the human body during labor inspired me to help other women through similar transformative journeys. I'm committed to sharing my insights to assist others on the powerful yet sometimes daunting journey of childbirth, drawing wisdom from nature's teachings.
